Safeguarding

In today's world safeguarding our children is of paramount importance. There is a wealth of information out there to support you.

The safety and well-being of our children is a key priority for everyone and St Thomas of Canterbury Infant School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This includes operating in a safe manner and ensuring that everyone is safe from harm.

This means that we have safeguarding and child protection procedures in place that all staff (including supply staff, volunteers and governors) must ensure they are aware of and operate to. These are reviewed at least annually and we welcome any helpful comment - click here to view.

As a school we have a responsibility to inform Children’s Services if we have concerns about the welfare and safety of a child in our school.

If you are concerned about the welfare of any child, please inform the designated safeguarding lead as soon as possible. If any adult has a concern about another staff member or volunteer at St Thomas of Canterbury Infant School they should inform the Headteacher or Chair of Governors immediately.

Designated Safeguarding Lead: Mrs L’Estrange (Headteacher)

Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead: Mrs Cumpstey (Deputy Headteacher)

All staff recruitment panels include at least one person who has completed appropriate 'Safer Recruitment' training.

All staff, governors, students and volunteers undertake a DBS check and staff DBS details are kept in a Single Central Record in school.

We believe that it is important to make children aware of behaviour towards them that is not acceptable and our curriculum supports children in recognising when their personal safety is being compromised.

The school also signposts access to support for pupils, by displaying Childline posters and contact telephone number.
